Team Captains – please remember the 3 day rule: the scores should be with the shoulder to shoulder secretary within 3 days of the match being shot (excluding Sundays), either by traditional postcard signed by both captains on the night, or by both of them emailing in the e-card (see main S/S page for details). The League Secretary also asks that a phone-photo be taken of the scoreboard to act as a backstop for lost results and help resolve any issues that may subsequently arise.

*** The average of any reserve must be provided on the result card of their first match (if not before) ***
(Handicap League rule)

Please note: The handicapping system being used this season is again the Bayley system, not the Macrae system.

Previous match commentary:

28/10/2021: George Heriot’s FP v Watsonians: The 2021-22 season has finally managed to get under way with George Heriot’s hosting  Watsonians at the Balerno & Currie range.  Watsonians started off with a 44-24 points off win so the long Covid layoff has certainly not hampered them in any way.  As well as taking the 2 match points Watsonians  won all the individual matchups and also won the Handicap match so a clean sweep for Watsonians.  Best scorer of the evening for Watsonians was D Caughey with a combined 3 points off total score.  Best scorer for George Heriot’s was C W Mackenzie with a combined 9 points off total score.

04/11/2021: George Heriot’s FP v Prestonpans: Second match of the season and it was a woeful night’s shooting for the Prestonpans team who all decided to have a very off night.  So George Heriot’s had a clean sweep of all results, 2 match points, all points for the individual match ups and the Handicap match.  Best scorer of the evening for George Heriot’s was a tie between C Watson and S Mackenzie each with a 5 points off total score.  Best scorer for an off colour Prestonpans team was J Young with a 14 points off total score.

18/11/2021: George Heriot’s FP v Balerno & Currie: On a bad night for George Heriot’s they lost this match to Balerno & Currie 64-22.  Taking 2 match points,  all individual matchup points and the Handicap match for a clean sweep for the Balerno & Currie team.  Best scorer on the evening for Balerno & Currie was J Bradfield with a 3 points off total score and the best scorer for the George Heriot’s team was  a tie between C W Mackenzie and S R Mackenzie each with a 10 points off total score.  The captain of the George Heriot’s team commented that they must do better!

02/12/2021: Prestonpans v Watsonians. Watsonians won this match at a canter, 59-24, although it has to be said that this is the first match, at least since I started shooting Shoulder to Shoulder, that all the Prestonpans  shooters individual card points off were all in single figures……improvement at last!  So 2 match points to Watsonians and a clean sweep for the individual matchups, however, Prestonpans did win the Handicap match by a whisker.  Best scorer of the evening for Watsonians  was D Caughey with a 1 point off total score (he was disappointed!), best scorer for Prestonpans was J Young with an 11 points off total score.

09/12/2021: Prestonpans v Balerno & Currie.  Unfortunately the Balerno & Currie team thought that this rescheduled match from October was to be shot at their range but it was in fact to be shot at the Prestonpans range.  The Balerno & Currie captain conceded the match in an email to the Prestonpans Team.

24/01/2022: Prestonpans v George Heriot’s FP.  In an off night for three of the Prestonpans shooters this turned out to be an easy win for George Heriot’s.  George Heriot’s took the scratch match, the individual match and the handicap match points.  Best scorer of the evening for George Heriot’s was shared between C  Watson and D Aitken with  each having a 7 points off total. Best scorer for Prestonpans was J Young with an 8 points off total score.

27/01/2022: Balerno & Currie v Prestonpans.  A win this evening for Balerno and Currie with the team taking the 2 match points, Prestonpans managed to take 2 points from Balerno & Currie in the individual match ups and Prestonpans managed to win the handicap match as well….pays to shoot to your average!!!  Best scorer of the evening for Balerno and Currie was J Bradfield with a 7 points off total and the best scorer for Prestonpans was J Young also with a 7 point off total score.

10/02/2022: Watsonians v Balerno & Currie.  In a very closely scored match Watsonians managed to edge this tie by a single point 35-36, however, individual match up points were shared at 4 each.  In the handicap match Watsonians took both match points.  Best scorer of the evening for Watsonians was D Caughey with a 5 points off total score and the best scorer for Balerno & Currie was N Georgeson with a 4 points off total score.

10/03/2022: Balerno & Currie v George Heriot’s FP.  Balerno & Currie won this evening’s match taking the 2 match points, all the individual match points but lost the handicap match to the Heriot’s team.  Best scorer of the evening for the Balerno & Currie team was N Georgeson with a 2 points off total score.  Best scorer of the evening for the George Heriot’s  team was S R Mackenzie with a 7 points off total score.  A ‘can do better’ was the message from the George Heriot’s team.

10/03/2022: Watsonians v Prestonpans.  An off night this evening for one of the Prestonpans shooters who was suffering from a bad cold and headache and it showed in the scoring.  So Watsonians swept the board taking scratch, handicap and individual match points.  Best scorer for the victorious Watsonians team was A Dove with a disappointing 1 point off total score!!!!  Best scorer of the evening for the Prestonpans team was W Horton with a 12 points off total score.  A ‘must do better’ comment  came from the Prestonpans team.
