Team Captains – please remember the 3 day rule: the scores should be with the shoulder to shoulder secretary within 3 days of the match being shot (excluding Sundays), either by traditional postcard signed by both captains on the night, or by both of them emailing in the e-card (see main S/S page for details). The League Secretary also asks that a phone-photo be taken of the scoreboard to act as a backstop for lost results and help resolve any issues that may subsequently arise.

Previous match commentary:
24/10/2016: Redcraig v Prestonpans A. The first match this season had Prestonpans with with a mountain to climb as one of their shooters was a no show. The remaining three had mixed fortunes shooting 3 decent cards and three rather bad cards. Redcraig had almost a clean sweep in both the match results and match points, except where the match points were shared between Prestonpans M Williamson and Redcraig’s A McConnell. Redcraig’s C McConnell was the high scorer of the evening .
28/10/2016: Hawick v Prestonpans A. For this visit to Hawick, Prestonpans managed to field a full complement of shooters. This one was always going to be an uphill struggle for Prestonpans but they managed to markedly improve their scores from the previous match. Hawick took 6 of the 8 match points with M Williamson taking 2 for Prestonpans. Under the handicap rules Prestonpans managed the win by the size of a bullet – .303. [You wanna check your arithmetic, Greg? Ed.] Best score of the evening was shot by Hawick’s W Vaughan with an amazing 1 point off a perfect score.
03/11/2016: Balerno & Currie v Watsonians. Very good shooting by the Watsonians team saw them win this match against Balerno & Currie. Watsonians scored 6 match points with 2 going to Balerno & Currie courtesy of A Robertson. High score of the match was P Brett with a vey good 3 points off. 10/11/2016: Balerno & Currie v Redcraig. In this match Redcraig had a bit of an off night in the scratch scores compared to their first match of the season and all eight match points went to the Balerno & Currie team, however, Redcraig did win the Handicap match by a slender margin. Best score of the match went to N Georgeson of Balerno & Currie with a total of 3 points off.
10/11/2016: Watsonians v Prestonpans A. Prestonpans definitely had an off night in this match with 3 scores into double figures. Watsonians, however, showed their class by only dropping 13 points, with the high score going to A Dove with an impressive 2 points off, taking all match points and the Handicap match as well.
11/11/2016: Hawick v Prestonpans B. This was the first outing for the Prestonpans B team and it did not go to well so nerves must have played a big part in the first round. They did improve second round but in the end were well beaten in the scratch scores but lost out by 2.8 points in the handicap league…not a bad effort. Hawick took all 8 match points and the best score of the day was by A Anderson with a 3 point off score.
14/11/2016: Prestonpans B v Redcraig. First home match for Prestonpans B and they were looking to score better than their first match. This they did by a fair margin but it was still not good enough to beat Redcraig. Two Redcraig shooters had a bit of an off night but they still managed to win comfortably in the scratch match. However Prestonpans B did manage to beat Redcraig in the Handicap league by .616….well done to them. Best score of the night went to to C Connell with a 9 points off score.

17/11/2016: Prestonpans A v Hawick. A valiant effort by the Prestonpans A team in this match but sadly three team members had a bit of an off night with their scores…they can shoot better than that. Hawick picked up all 8 match points in the scratch as well as winning the Handicap. Best score of the evening was W Vaughan with 4 points off total. The Hawick team applauded the buffet spread supplied by Prestonpans as being the best they have had ….any points available for best buffet??

Best score of the match was by two Watsonians – D Caughey and A Dove with 4 points off each.
21/11/2016: Prestonpans A v George Heriot’s FP. Shooting was a bit inconsistent here for some of the shooters. Put this down to a freezing cold, wet and windy evening in Prestonpans. Match points were shared in the scratch match, however, Prestonpans won the handicap match so all things being equal a satisfactory evening for both teams. Best score of the night went to C Watson of George Heriot’s with a fine 3 points off total.

08/12/2016: Watsonians v Prestonpans B. Not a good night for the Prestonpans B team as 2 of their regular team and the reserve did not shoot well. Watsonians took all 8 match points as well as the handicap match and the best score of the night was down to D Caughey with a 3 points off of a total score. The Prestonpans B team were very impressed with the home made pies, sausage rolls and cake after the shoot and will find it hard pressed to reciprocate…watch this space!!
